Some of My Pilgrimages

Visiting places of importance is an obsession I still am possessed with. When I visit such places my moods get elevated. My hands get additionally empowered to perform another feat in my most preferred instrument the Chenda or the stringed favourite of mine the guitar.

On such occasions, I get transported to some worlds of the upper stratum. I used to fall into a cathartic trance during those visits.

Those moments are the accrued wealth of this life. Recently I was blessed with the company of a veteran artist and film-maker. Sree Sreenivasan- the man who broadcasted reels of soul-refreshing laughter to many a million of the Malayalam knowing mass. The cleansing laughter he triggered off must have worked better than a million rounds of psychological counselling or thousands of psychotherapy sessions. His broadcasts carried therapeutic properties.

I felt a shudder going down my spine when he touched my hands in a warm shake. I pray a bit of that therapeutic efficacies be transplanted to my drummings too.

Playing it with devotion....

Pushpaja seva sangham is an association of the garland makers of temples in Kerala. These garland made by them only is used to adorn the deity or idols in temples. Mainly these work in temples is carried out by a cast known as Nambisans. Varrier community also is also traditionally garland makers. They go in search of flowers that can be offered to the god, make garlands and other floral patterns for the lord of the temple. Priests of the temple will accept it from them, without touching, and is offered to the lord.

Pushpaja Seva Sangham is a non-political movement to take care of the genuine requirements of the members of these casts, mainly Nambisans.

During the association 47th state meet Sreejish Marar participated in a Ashtapadi recital. Sreejish played idayka in accompaniment to the recital.
